I was born in Tiptree, Essex and after education became a shoe-maker, repairer and saddler. This led to the running of my own business before training for ministry at Westminster College Cambridge. Since then I served pastorates at Sawston and Lt Abington in Cambridgeshire and St John's Ipswich before taking up my current role. I have also been covenor of the URC's Life and Witness Committee, serve on the National Mission Committee and I am part of the Joint National Rural Strategy Group for the URC/Methodist churches. I have experience in areas of chaplaincy to the dying and elderly and been involved in producing matrials around death and dying.

Married to Catherine, who is also a URC minister with two sons, I am a Freeman of Colchester, Essex and enjoy all sport, including being a season ticket holder of Colchester United. Other interests include walking, cooking, eating out, theatre and music.

My doctorate is in Hebrew Language and Scriptures (our Christian Old Testament) and I enjoy working with Church groups (young & old) to help them get a sense of both the playfulness and poignancy of the Hebrew Bible. I also am a trained administrator for the Myers-BriggsType Indicator and enjoy working with ministry teams, church leaders and individuals in their development. I organise the mediation team for the Methodist District and can offer mediation/conflict resolution training to groups and individuals. Finally I have a passion for Christian ethics in everyday life and have led parish weekends for Lay & Ordained people.
